2007 Schrader

“2007s, universally acknowledged as a great vintage for Napa, are spectacular." (RP)

The vintage you should be drinking right now is 2007. Robert Parker said that the "2007 is no doubt the greatest vintage for Bordeaux varietals in Napa since 2001 and 2002." (Robert Parker, 2009). If there was one producer who absolutely crushed that vintage...it would be Schrader. 

Schrader is known for producing some of the most hedonistic California Cabernet that any Napa Valley wine connoisseur will find. Spectacular terroir, amazing winemaker, and no max budget when it comes to barrels and other winemaking tools. These are the components to a world class winery and Schrader is considered to be one of the best.  

The 2007 vintage was not as backwards as 2001 and not as concentrated as the 2002, which made the wines extremely accessible in the early years. 2007 was a perfect in-between that made this wine perfect for early drinking but could also to age for three or more decades.

Possessing extraordinarily intense notes of lead pencil shavings, camphor, licorice, creme de cassis, kirsch, and crushed rocks, it exhibits full body, awesome intensity, terrific purity, and a mind-boggling finish. If Pauillac were somehow magically moved to the Oakville Corridor in Napa, tasters would believe this wine came from a first-growth Pauillac. Although it is more forward than the George III, the RBS will benefit from 4-5 years of cellaring, and will keep for 30+ years."

"The 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer George III Vineyard comes from clone 337, from a Beckstoffer-owned vineyard in Rutherford. Its dense purple color is followed by a big, sweet nose of black cherries, black currants, cedar, spice box, and subtle oak. Enormously concentrated and full-bodied with superb minerality as well as tannic structure, it will benefit from 4-5 years of bottle age, and should evolve for three decades."
