In the 17th century, the monk Dom Pierre Pérignon nurtured an ambition to create “the best wine in the world”. We think it's safe to say that he did just that, because today, Dom Perignon is a household name and one that is adored by collectors, critics, sommeliers and celebrities around the world.

As we know, Dom Perignon only produces vintage Champagne. What does this mean? It means that they have an unyielding commitment to bear witness to the harvest of a single year, whatever the challenges, even going as far as not declaring a vintage. Typically, only six vintage each decade meet their high standards. Always a blend of Chardonay and Pinot Noir, and always absolutely delicious.

"2002 ranks alongside 2008 when it comes to the best vintages of the decade." - Decanter
"2008 Dom Pérignon is a huge, powerful Champagne and also clearly one of the wines of the vintage" - Galloni

2002

"The 2002 Dom Pérignon is unforgettable. Rich, sumptuous and flamboyant to the core, the 2002 captures all of the radiance of a year in which ripeness in the Chardonnays was pushed to the edge. The 2002 is oily and viscous on the palate, with tremendous textural resonance in all of its dimensions. Tropical fruit, pastry and exotic floral notes all build as the 2002 opens up with air. I can still remember the first time I tasted the 2002, here in the Hautvillers cloister, with former Chef de Caves Richard Geoffroy. It was thrilling back then, and is every bit as memorable today." - AG98

"Wonderful elegance and balance to this Dom Pérignon with cooked apple, lemon and hints of white pepper and salt. It’s medium-bodied with really fine bubbles and balance. Spicy at the end. So wonderfully fresh, linear and long. Racy and elegant. A DP that invites to drink right now. All about finesse. Tension, too, with precise phenolics and bright acidity on the back palate. Subtle energy." - JS97

2008

"The 2008 Dom Pérignon is the first time the estate has released a wine out of order (the 2009 was released before the 2008) but the estate loved the wine so much they felt it warranted additional aging. This is a rich, powerful wine that still shows incredible purity and elegance, with a stacked, concentrated feel on the palate. It’s rare to find such a mix of ripe, pure, concentrated fruit paired with this level of purity, focus, and precision. This is a legendary Dom that surpasses all the great vintages of Dom I have experience with, including the 1990, 1996, and 2002." - JD98

"A wine hyped by so many (me included) and tasted more than a dozen times over the last two years. Richard Geoffroy (ex chef-de-cave) has performed a master-stroke, delivering that seemingly impossible combination of production volume and quality. Using his experience of the similar 1996 vintage, Geoffroy patiently waited before picking (in fact the entire harvest took almost a month!) to ensure the wines had better balance and phenolic ripeness. One of the best young Dom Perignons I have tasted, a perfect blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir (neither grape dominating), the “struck-match”, reductive character doesn’t dominate as much as some vintage. Sublime, cool fruited on the palate, compact with hidden density and a creamy finish that goes on and on. This will be a Dom Perignon for your children, but if you’re a selfish parent like I am, there will likely be none left to inherit!" - JM98
