Liger Belair

Founded in 2000, Liger-Belair is relatively new and young by Burgundy standards, but the family has been making wines in Vosne Romanee for over 200 years. An extremely small production but prestigious Domaine, Liger-Belair counts amongst its holding the smallest grand cru in Burgundy and the smallest AOC in France, La Romanée, of which it is the sole owner. At just two acres in size, this is without a doubt some of the most rare and coveted fruit in all of Burgundy.

Owner Louis-Michel believes that the quality of the wines he produces lies in the vineyard; he maintains that the vine is a living entity and it should not be subjected to anything that we ourselves could not tolerate. The Domaine abides by the belief that the less one does in the winery and in the cellar, the better the wines turn out.

Despite the Domaine’s youth, their elegantly structured wines are highly sought-after and loved by the most discerning Burgundy palates. This is a producer that we seek out often at GRW, and today we have a nice variety of vintages & bottlings available to you – something that doesn’t happen too often!

“It was evident from Louis-Michel Liger-Belair’s first vintage that he was going to be a star. After all, he descends from what was once a family with some of the greatest land holdings in Burgundy. But more than that, he’s the spiritual successor of Jayer and he owns what is perhaps the second greatest vineyard in all of Burgundy.” – Becky Wasserman

Do not miss the 2008 La Romanee – We just dropped the price on these and are now the best price in the country by over $1,000/bottle!
