MacDonald Vineyards To-Kalon Cabernet

We just secured some incredible MacDonald Vineyards To-Kalon Cabernet 2018 and 2019 vintage! The 2019 is a 100 Pointer and the 2018 is 99 points.

Production is around 350 cases and the mailing list is over 10-15 years long. We are constantly on the lookout for MacDonald and jump when we have the chance to source some of these outstanding wines!  Typically, you only see a bottle here and there every once in a while – if that!

There remain only two minor parcels within Crabb’s To-Kalon that operate on a small, family-run scale and one of them is the 21-acre MacDonald plot.

If you are looking for the purest expression of To Kalon, MacDonald is what you want at the table. This tiny production from Alex and Graeme MacDonald has the Napa Wine community certain that this is the best To Kalon you are going to find.

We have 4 bottles of 2019 in stock right now and then the rest of the 2018 is on the way to us in a refrigerated truck.

"Flirting with perfection, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon from this tiny family estate shows the pure, elegant, yet concentrated style." - Jeb Dunnuck

Do not miss the opportunity to own some of the most coveted To Kalon wines.

2018
"Flirting with perfection, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon from this tiny family estate shows the pure, elegant, yet concentrated style of this vintage to a T. Darker currants, cassis, olives, violets, and spring flower notes all flow to a full-bodied, concentrated, ultra-classic, flawlessly balanced Cabernet. The tannins are present yet polished, it has wonderfully integrated acidity, and is one of those wines that keeps you coming back to the glass. Count yourself lucky if you’re able to snag any bottles. It will ideally be given 4-6 years of bottle age and it’s going to evolve for 20-25 years or more." - Jeb Dunnick 99

2019
The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon is another incredibly brilliant wine from this estate that's up with the greatest wines in the vintage (and the world). From a tiny parcel of very old vines in the To Kalon Vineyard, it reveals a semi-opaque deep purple color to go with an incredible nose of crème de cassis, black olive, iron, tobacco, and lead pencil. As textbook Oakville as it gets with its darker, herbal, yet powerful style, it's medium to full-bodied and has a wonderful sense of elegance and purity, silky tannins, and a great, great finish. It certainly offers incredible pleasure today, as do most 2019s, yet it deserves 4-6 years of bottle age and I suspect will be 30+ year wine. If you get a chance to buy this, do it- Jeb Dunnuck, 100
