"While slightly fresher and more restrained, this showed largely like the same wine in 750 ml format (see herein). A perfumed nose is slowly turning toward the secondary with plenty of spice elements adding breadth to the red berry fruit, tea and softly sandalwood-inflected aromas. This is very much crafted in the Drouhin style as it is a wine of proportion and balance with an intensity of delivery and length that is really quite special. Moreover, it possesses magnificent complexity, superb detail and a penetrating minerality plus a finish that lasts for minutes. In a word, gorgeous. While at 20 years of age, it could be enjoyed even in large format, the lurking tannins make clear that this is still at least a decade away from its peak and is a wine that should see its 50th birthday in fine fashion." - Burghound, BH96, tasted 10/2019
