"The 1988 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru is a wine that I have tasted four times over some 20 years. Now in its third decade, it is clearly at full maturity. It has a beguiling bouquet with impressive detail and focus, those red berried fruits blossoming from the glass, Morello cherries commingling with whitetipped strawberries interlaced with crushed stone. Maybe this bottle has a more floral element? Wilted rose petals in an antique vase. As before, the aromatics intensify with aeration. The palate is mediumbodied with more rondeur than I noticed previously, at the expense of the tension that defined two bottles four years ago.
