'The power of 1989 demands long ageing both before and after disgorgement. In terms of the latter, the wine has now enjoyed over 20 years of liberation from the dark cellars of Reims. We, in turn, are rewarded with an assertive toasty rich wine; coffee and dark chocolate evidenced, Black forest gateau almost, its dark cherry core still distinctive and refreshing, and beyond that hints of sour honey and blond tobacco.
